"FreedomCare" Would Be A Winning Message.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris could help themselves tremendously if they'd go bigger and clearer on health care. Free care for Covid is fine, but a comprehensive affordable health care plan, one simple to describe and understand, would be a hell of a lot better.
Right now, the Democratic candidates have a plan, but no one really knows what it is, and they're not doing a great job of selling it. In fact, they shouldn't focus on the plan itself. They should focus on how their plan will help everyday Americans.
In short, they should say:
“Here’s our plan, and this is what it means to you: no onerous payments, complete portability, and available to everyone in your family. Just like Congress and the President have. And just like their insurance, it’ll build on Obamacare, Medicare, and Medicaid. It’ll cover pre-existing conditions, preventive medicine, and catastrophic care. And it’s strictly voluntary. If you don’t want it, you can keep your own insurance. But it’s there if you need it. That means more freedom for you and less worry for your family. You’ll have quality care available for the rest of your life, and you’ll have it if you change jobs, get laid off, or want to start your own business.”
“And it'll save businesses a lot of grief by ensuring that their employees can get health care on their own -- if they want it. This is a win-win for everyone. Good for individuals, good for business, good for the economy.”
“Donald Trump’s plan? We’ve seen it in action: Covid is a blessing.”
“We Democrats believe in opportunity. And the greatest opportunity is to have a happy and healthy life.”
“That’s our plan for you. We call it FreedomCare.”
