Democrats Need October Surprises

The debate for Vice President probably won’t move the needle for the Harris campaign, which leaves the race razor tight - and Democrats probably behind in the swing states that will determine the winner of the Electoral College.

WinningBlue has argued for months that the Democratic campaigns for President must take dramatic steps to swing the momentum in their favor.

With only off month left, the urgency to generate excitement in the electorate is greater than ever.

Brett Stephens, no fan of Kamala Harris, has made some suggestions that would get his vote - and presumably others that could give her the edge (NY Times) in the election.

Like WinningBlue, he advises the campaign to enlist the full involvement of two of America’s most revered military leaders, General Stanley McChrystal and Admiral William McRaven, as Secretary of Homeland Security and Secretary of Defense, respectively.  He adds that he’d appoint retired Admiral James Stavridis as Director of Central Intelligence.

These appointments would firmly establish Harris’ foreign policy superiority over Donald Trump’s promise to surrender our and international leadership.  They might not be enough for her to win, but they’d effectively end doubts about her ability to handle foreign affairs.
