KEEPING America Great!

No one knows if Donald Trump has any core beliefs besides his own self-interest, but his supporters certainly believe his bullshit about a dystopian America in decline.  

Despite all evidence to the contrary, they believe his lies, share his cynicism, and are willing to disavow decency, overthrow our government, and forsake their friends and families for an utterly corrupt dictator who despises America’s history and will gaslight us to destruction.

By contrast, Kamala is reality-based, and that reality holds the promise for our continued greatness.

She’s got to flaunt her belief in our system of laws, our culture, and our economy, not as a static, stagnant flaw in the American character but as the intrinsic attributes that allows us to advance.

Gaslighting is a not a new phenomenon in American culture.  In the 1930s, Groucho Marx put it bluntly:  “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?”

Trump is asking Americans - quite successfully - to distrust themselves as well as their own government, legal institutions, civic organizations, and historical norms. 

Kamala must challenge that negative, cynical, self-destructive vision of America.  She must talk about the best of American values, the progress we’ve made, and the promise the future holds for us.

She should drop the talk about a $35 price cap on drugs, her detailed policy proposals, and her values and middle-class values.  Instead, she should boast about the soaring stock market and its faith in our future. 

Inspire the nation with our shared values.  Counter Trump’s dark, dystopian vision with America’s awesome strength, people, and ability to improve. 

Talk about America.  Talk about strength in unity!  Talk about our inspirational international leadership and the American dream!  Talk BIG!
