Patriotic Warriors For Harris-Walz

Today’s NT Times column endorsing the Harris-Walz ticket by retired four-star General Stanley McChrystal is huge.  A former Special Operations commander, he embodies the finest American traditions of the warrior-statesman.  He is a patriot without peer.

McChrystal joins others American political and national security figures in rejecting Donald Trump’s anti-American policies and philosophy.

His support of Harris-Walz takes real guts.  Given Trump’s threats of retribution against his enemies, it’s not a stretch to say that he’s putting his life on the line.  Maybe his valance will set an example for other generals who oppose Trump to make their views more public.

The Harris-Walz campaign should build on McChrystal’s Times’ oped.  Ideally, it should get the General to join with other military and national security figures in social media video clips.

“Patriotic Warriors for Harris” would be a good title for the campaign.  Videos could employ military scenes as backdrops or opt for dignified, flag-draped studio settings.

Trump could do nothing comparable (though he might try by lying).  In fact, Tim Walz might want to cite McChrystal and other military figures in his debate with JD Vance.

It’s important to make swing voters aware of these endorsements.  Getting these figures on Fox News would be huge.  Deploying them to military communities would also be helpful as would pitching them to military media.

This blog suggested using military figures when Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee. Those ideas are still, perhaps more, relevant now.
