Trumponomics: Simple Slogans For Simple Minds

Trump’s economic policies are nothing more than non-sequiturs that don’t stand up to scrutiny.  But they're easily memorizable and repeatable and satisfying in their simplicity.

Trump has the advantage of building on myths that Republicans have promulgated for decades., most notably railing about regulations. Unfortunately, Tim Walz didn’t do much to explain or refute this idea in his debate last night. But it underlies much of the REpublican offensive against Democrats.

Since there’s not enough time for Democrats to thoroughly debunk Trump’s “plans,” the only chance for the Harris campaign is to simplify their plans to counter his message.

Start by taking credit for leading the country back from Trump’s depression, offshoring, loss of jobs, destruction of supply chain, and inflation.

Then talk about creating opportunities for broadening prosperity who feel they’ve been left behind.

The ideas already offered are a great start:  Investments in the future, infrastructure, repatriation and revitalization of our industrial base will maintain our economic primacy and enhance our world environmental leadership.

Give a nod to Elon Musk’s vision for solar power and to the power of technology to lead us away from fossil fuels.

Promise the American dream to all citizens:
* Affordable housing for everyone
* Affordable dental, vision, and hearing care
* Affordable groceries

The point is to promise all the things Trump can’t or won’t.

He’s the past.  America is all about the future.
