Electric Vehicles Are The Way To Go
One of the most effective public-relations achievement of Joe Biden’s administration was his demonstration of the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck.
It gave him an opportunity to show off his driving ability (something Trump won’t and probably can’t do); identify with the iconic American auto industry in an iconic vehicle; and show how technology can both bolster the economy and improve the environment.
Unfortunately, the administration hasn’t followed through with more such dramatic events. But it’s not too late.
If it acts now, it can create gatherings to show off cutting-edge American automotive technology and manufacturing capabilities. It could invite the Big Three automakers to show off their products and technologies. It could also recognize investors and entrepreneurs working on lesser known products and services.
Naturally, such a gathering wouldn’t be complete with Elon Musk, who has arguably done more to promote electric vehicles than anyone. He should be singled out for praise and perhaps even honored for his efforts. Doing so might even dilute his current enthusiasm for Donald Trump, who’s made clear his disdain for the technology.
It’d be wise to use such an event to make a major announcement: perhaps a breakthrough technology, a government effort to dramatically increase the electric-vehicle infrastructure in the country, or major investments or export expansion in the domestic auto industry.'
The important thing is to show the country that “America Works.”
