Biden Should Propose A Balanced Budget

At some point in the coming months, Republicans will likely to renew their traditional attacks Democrats on government spending.

Democrats should be ready.  Maybe they should even takin the initiative by acting preemptively to control the terms of the national debate that will ensue.

At minimum, they have to be prepared to defend spending on vital services - Social Security, Medicare, the military, and infrastructure.

But they should aggressively push the idea that Democrats, not Republicans, are the fiscally responsible party.  They could even promise balance budgets - something the nation hasn’t seen since the Clinton administration.

They don’t have to talk explicitly about reversing Trump’s tax cuts for the rich.  But doing so would go a long way to allaying honest concerns about budget deficits.  They could also talk about added revenues from the investments they’ve already made.

The important thing is to make the PROMISE of a budget balance seem viable.
